Exporting a PST file in Outlook 2003

If you want to backup your Outlook mailbox, move your Outlook mailbox to a new computer, or switch from a POP3 mailbox to a WebsiteValet.com Hosted Exchange mailbox, you'll want to create a PST file of your current Outlook mailbox.
  1. From the File menu in Outlook 2003, choose Import and Export....

  2. From the Import and Export Wizard pop-up window, choose Export to a file and click Next.

  3. Choose Personal Folder File (.pst) and click Next.

  4. To copy everything to the PST file, select the top folder which will be named something like Mailbox - Your Name. Then click the Include subfolders checkbox to include everything like: calendar, contacts, inbox, etc. Click Next.

  5. Save the PST file to an easy location to remember like your desktop. Choose Browse... and choose your Desktop from the Open Personal Folders pop-up window. Give your file a .pst file name like OutlookBackup.pst and click OK.

  6. From the Export Personal Folders pop-up window, choose the option that makes the most sense and then click Finish. (In most cases, choose Do not export duplicate items.)

  7. In the Create Microsoft Personal Folders pop-up window, change the Encryption Setting to No Encryption and choose OK. Depending on the size of your mailbox, it could take some time for your computer to generate the PST file.
