If you want to backup your Outlook mailbox, move your Outlook mailbox to a new computer, or switch from a POP3 mailbox to a WebsiteValet.com Hosted Exchange mailbox, you'll want to create a PST file of your current Outlook mailbox.
- From the File menu in Outlook 2003, choose Import and Export....
- From the Import and Export Wizard pop-up window, choose Export to a file and click Next.
- Choose Personal Folder File (.pst) and click Next.
- To copy everything to the PST file, select the top folder which will be named something like Mailbox - Your Name. Then click the Include subfolders checkbox to include everything like: calendar, contacts, inbox, etc. Click Next.
- Save the PST file to an easy location to remember like your desktop. Choose Browse... and choose your Desktop from the Open Personal Folders pop-up window. Give your file a .pst file name like OutlookBackup.pst and click OK.
- From the Export Personal Folders pop-up window, choose the option that makes the most sense and then click Finish. (In most cases, choose Do not export duplicate items.)
- In the Create Microsoft Personal Folders pop-up window, change the Encryption Setting to No Encryption and choose OK. Depending on the size of your mailbox, it could take some time for your computer to generate the PST file.
