I had a chance to play with an iPhone the other day. While it is a cool piece of hardware and I like the Safari browser, I wouldn't recommend it to any of my friends. Because I have used a T-Mobile MDA with Windows Mobile 5 for the last 1.5 years, the flaws in the iPhone REALLY stand out for me: (1) the built-in mail software doesn't support Exchange mail and syncing contacts and calendar with an Exchange server, (2) my MDA is 1.5 years old and only has support for Edge data, so why does a new phone like the iPhone not support 3G data, and (3) the soft keyboard. I’ve heard people rave about how it’s the best soft-keyboard they’ve ever used (most soft-keyboards are so bad that this may not be much of a compliment), but I had a 50% error rate when trying to type on it; a rate much higher than the error rate I first had with my MDA with it's keyboard with actual buttons. Over the first month, I got used to the MDA keyboard and I am sure my typing on the iPhone's soft-keyboard would get better after a month of use, HOWEVER I am a big e-mail guy and a real keyboard is a must for me. Maybe Apple will get smart and put a real keyboard on iPhone 2.0.
